A/B testing on Squarespace: how to install and what to test

Squarespace has a built-in header code injection feature, which is all Donnu needs to run A/B tests on your site, with no external app and without touching the template.

Squarespace builds the site with templates and lets you add code in the header via Code Injection. Donnu comes in there and applies to the whole site. With a snippet under 6KB and anti-flicker, the page does not flicker, and if Donnu is down, the visitor sees the original version.

How to install Donnu on Squarespace

  1. Via Code Injection. In the Squarespace dashboard, go to Settings, Advanced, Code Injection and paste the Donnu line in the Header field. It applies to all pages.
  2. Via Google Tag Manager. If you use GTM on the site, you can fire Donnu as a Custom HTML tag there.
  3. Confirm the install. Save, open the site and use the Donnu checker to confirm the snippet was detected.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a specific Squarespace plan?
Header Code Injection usually requires a Business plan or higher on Squarespace. With it enabled, Donnu installs in minutes.
Does it work on Squarespace 7.1?
Yes. Donnu edits the final HTML the visitor receives, so it works on Squarespace versions that allow header code injection.
Does the test slow the site down?
The snippet is under 6KB and loads async, with anti-flicker. No flash and no risk of a broken page.
